Benton Irrigation District Awards River Pump Station Contract
Benton Irrigation District (BID) awarded Emery and Sons Construction, Incorporated of Salem, Oregon the contract for construction of the District’s river pump station on Tuesday, June 3. Emery and Sons offered the low bid of $6.2M to build a 3,900 horsepower pump station that will take water from the Yakima River, pressurize it and deliver it to the 4,650 acres that comprise BID. A total of 10 bids were received.
BID’s portion of cost for the river pump station is $1.1M. The Bureau of Reclamation and Washington Department of Ecology are funding the balance of the river pump station costs.
The river pump station is the first phase of construction on BID’s $28.6M project to convert from a open canal system to a fully pressurized irrigation system. Construction on the river pump station will start in July of this summer and is scheduled to be completed by March of 2010 and in operation for the 2010 irrigation season. Benton Rural Electrification Association will provide electricity to the river pump station.
Design of the first portion of the conveyance system is underway. Work to install piping to approximately one-third of the District’s water users is scheduled to be awarded in October of 2009. Delivery of water from the pressurized system to the first phase of the project is scheduled for the 2010 irrigation season. Deliveries to the remaining two-thirds of the District are scheduled to be completed by the 2012 irrigation season.
